Family urging suspect to surrender after Louisville mother stabbed to death in her home
For five years, visits, phone calls and text messages were part of Rayshonda Stewart’s routine with her mother, Kimberly Alexander.
Now, their absence feels enormous.
“Pulling up and her not coming out that door, it’s devastating,” Stewart said. “Not getting a call in the morning. Not getting a text.”
Alexander was stabbed Thursday at her home on South 38th Street and later died at a hospital, according to her family. Louisville Metro Police are investigating her death.
“My mom was brutally taken from us,” Stewart said.
The family said Alexander was stabbed four times, including once in the heart. Authorities have not publicly confirmed those details.
Stewart said her mother told her on July 31 that a male friend was trying to kill her. She said Alexander identified that man as the person who would be responsible if anything happened to her.
“She told me he was trying to kill her,” Stewart said.
The family believes descriptions provided by witnesses at the scene support its suspicions. Police have not publicly identified a suspect, and no arrests have been announced.
As investigators search for answers, Alexander’s relatives said they want her to be remembered for how she lived rather than how she died.
“She loved us so hard,” family member Maxie Mickle-Vang said.
“She won’t be remembered for how her life was taken,” Mickle-Vang added. “She’ll be remembered for who she was, what she stood for and all the love she poured into everyone she knew.”
The family also urged the person responsible to surrender.
“We know it’s you,” Stewart said. “You committed a crime. Be man enough to stand up and turn yourself in.”
