SEAN KINGSTON AND MOTHER CHARGED WITH $1 MILLION FRAUD

Rapper and singer was arrested in May where he was performing

Kingston and his mother charged with fraud and theft offences

Kingston already serving two-year probationary sentence for previous offence

Rapper and singer Sean Kingston, along with his mother, have been charged with a range of fraud and theft offences amounting to more than $1 million.

Kingston – real name Kisean Anderson – was initially arrested in May at Fort Irwin, an army training base in California where he was performing. Last week, he waived his right to extradition and agreed to be turned over to authorities in Florida, where the charges relate to.

Fraud and theft

Once back in Florida he was booked into the Broward County jail on June 2, according to jail records, as reported by AP.

Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner, 61, was also arrested in May at Kingston’s rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale.

Both have been charged with conducting and organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, identity theft and related crimes, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Items the pair are alleged to have stolen between October 2023 and March 2024 include money, jewelry, a car and furniture – in some cases hundreds of thousands of dollars worth – although details of how these offences took place have not been disclosed.

Previous trouble

Kingston has previously been in trouble with the law – he is currently serving a two-year probationary sentence for trafficking stolen property.

Turner is also no stranger to the police – in 2006 she was convicted of bank fraud for stealing more than $160,000 and ended up serving 18 months in prison for that.

Kingston is best known for ‘Beautiful Girls’ his debut single which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007. The follow-up, ‘Eenie Meenie’ – with Justin Bieber – also went top 20. Success has been harder to find in recent years, taking 10 years between recording his third and fourth studio albums.
