Khloé Kardashian Reflects on a “Mortifying” Serenade from Tristan Thompson

When it comes to love, heartbreak, and everything in between, Khloé Kardashian has never been one to hide the messy middle. And in her latest candid confession, she’s revisiting one of the most awkward romantic gestures from her on-and-off relationship with Tristan Thompson — a surprise serenade that went completely left.

The former couple, who spent five years together and share two children, weathered a very public rollercoaster romance before finally calling it quits amid Thompson’s paternity scandal — which surfaced just before the birth of their son, Tatum. But long before the final breakup, there was a backyard performance neither of them will ever forget.

A Surprise She Didn’t Want

On a recent episode of her Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, Kardashian opened up about what she described as a “mortifying” moment. Thompson had arranged for singer Giveon to perform live at her home — years ago, before Tatum was born, when she was still living in her previous house with daughter True.

“I was serenaded on just like a random day because I wasn’t expecting it,” Khloé recalled. What might sound romantic on paper quickly became cringe in real time.

At the time, she admitted she was “so annoyed” with Thompson. When he asked her to come outside, she had no idea a live performance was waiting in the backyard.

“Giveon came — and this was before he was who he is now — and he’s just singing,” she said. “I remember I hated Tristan and I was like, ‘Why are you doing this?’”

Love Song… During a Fight

While Giveon passionately poured his heart out, Thompson attempted to sit beside Khloé, who was visibly irritated.

“I’m like slapping him, and poor Giveon is still singing,” she shared. “It was mortifying.”

Despite the tension between the couple, Khloé couldn’t deny the talent standing in front of her. “I was like, ‘God, this guy is such a great singer. I love this guy.’”

In fact, she eventually retreated inside to grab her daughter True — joking that she needed a “third person” as a buffer because she was so fed up with Thompson in that moment.

Professionalism Under Pressure

If there was an MVP that day, it was Giveon. According to Khloé, the singer never broke character, never paused his song, and handled the painfully awkward energy like a true professional.

“To this day, if I see Giveon he’ll be like, ‘Remember, if I could sing live for you two while you guys were fighting and not break…’” she laughed. “He was so professional, he was so great, he didn’t break his song at all. He’s amazing. I love him.”

Though the relationship ultimately didn’t survive, the story remains a hilariously uncomfortable snapshot of where they once stood — proof that even grand romantic gestures can’t fix unresolved tension.

And if nothing else, it gave us an unforgettable image: a Grammy-nominated crooner belting love notes in a backyard while the couple he’s serenading is mid-argument. Now that’s a performance.
