Shaquille O’Neal Steps Up For Jada West, Covers Funeral Costs For 12-Year-Old After Tragic Bus Stop Fight

In a moment that hit hard across GeorgiaShaquille O’Neal stepped in to support the family of 12-year-old Jada West following her tragic death. The NBA legend confirmed Tuesday that he will cover her funeral expenses after learning about the situation through media reports, offering relief during an incredibly painful time.

“This story touched my heart the moment I saw it in the media,” O’Neal said. “As a father, my heart goes out to Jada’s family.”

The incident took place on March 5 near a school bus stop in the Ashley Place neighborhood west of Atlanta. According to family members, Jada was involved in an altercation shortly after getting off the bus. She stood up after the confrontation, but later collapsed, was hospitalized, and placed in a coma before passing away days later.

O’Neal said his decision came from compassion as a parent and a desire to help.

“No parent should ever have to bury their child,” O’Neal said. “If there is anything I can do to ease even a small part of that burden, then it is the right thing to do.”

He is working alongside Reginald B. Scandrett and Tim Pounds to coordinate support efforts for the family while the investigation continues. Local leaders say the focus remains on helping Jada’s loved ones while also seeking answers.

“When a child’s life is taken so tragically, it affects all of us,” Pounds said. “Our goal is simple. We want Jada’s family to know that they are not alone.”

Authorities confirmed the case remains under investigation.
