Woman Seriously Injured After Jumping Into Polar Bear Enclosure at Berlin Zoo

A shocking incident at the Berlin Zoo proves just how dangerous it can be to ignore safety rules.
A Risky Decision
A 32-year-old woman, identified as Mandy K, made headlines when she jumped into the polar bear enclosure during feeding time. In a series of reckless moves, she climbed a fence, pushed through hedges, and scaled a wall to enter the habitat.
The bears were being fed at the time—an especially dangerous moment to approach them. One of the polar bears quickly attacked, biting her multiple times and causing deep wounds and serious injuries.
Zoo Staff to the Rescue
Fortunately, zoo personnel acted fast. A staff member was able to scare the bear away and pull Mandy to safety. She was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery for injuries to her arm, leg, and back.
What Led to the Incident?
According to reports, Mandy—who had been struggling with employment as a teacher—may have been under emotional distress at the time of the incident. However, authorities have not confirmed any motive.
She is currently recovering in the hospital.
