Oprah Winfrey, 70, Hospitalized – Fans Pray for Her

Oprah Winfrey recently missed a scheduled interview due to a health scare. Her spokesperson has since shared an update on her condition which left her hospitalized.

In June 2024, Winfrey’s spokesperson posted on Instagram that she was set to appear on “CBS Mornings” to reveal her latest book club selection. However, the beloved host fell ill with a stomach virus over the weekend. Gayle King stepped in to explain Winfrey’s absence.

The spokesperson’s statement read, “We are happy to share that after receiving an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor, Oprah is feeling much better.”

This update indicated that Winfrey is now on the mend and is getting plenty of rest as she continues to recover. Fans quickly took to social media to send their well-wishes.

One person commented, “Prayers for a speedy recovery.” Another added, “Please don’t rush back, take care. Peace.” A third supporter wrote, “Sending prayers and healing light and love.”

King provided more details on “CBS Mornings” about what led to Winfrey’s hospitalization. The broadcaster explained that Winfrey had contracted a severe stomach bug.

“She had some kind of stomach thing—stomach flu—stuff was coming out of both ends. […] Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV. It was a very serious thing.”

King reassured viewers that Winfrey was improving, though she hoped her best friend wouldn’t be upset about her sharing the health update so publicly.

Although she faced a health concern, Winfrey is in the best shape at age 70. The media mogul showed how physically active she is at her age in January 2024.

The iconic entrepreneur celebrated her 70th birthday on January 29. She took to Instagram to post a video in which she showed off her physical prowess.

Footage showed Winfrey, her pup, and another woman jogging on the seashore. In her caption, the purple athleisure-wearing 70-year-old had a hashtag that prized health as the best gift and thanked people who sent her birthday wishes.

Along with the video, there was overlayed text, which read, “This Is 70!” Winfrey wrote an article reflecting on turning 70 a day before her birthday, which was published on Oprah Daily.

While speaking about entering a new decade, Winfrey disclosed, “As I turn 70, I know how blessed I am to be here. Honestly, getting older when you have the means to take care of yourself is a gift to be treasured […] to reach this major milestone feels like grace in action.”

As for why Winfrey opted for a more laid-back celebration instead of going all out, she referenced advice she got from a friend. Although the star received many lavish suggestions for how to celebrate, Winfrey explained, “I […] finally did what one friend, Wintley, recommended. He said, ‘You’re too blessed to stress. Savor the fragrances of your extraordinary life.'”

In another part of her article, she said she tries to start each new day with joy, acknowledging that she is blessed to remain alive and ready to embark on new endeavors. Winfrey also mentioned, “At my age, you recognize the poignancy of time passing.”

When it comes to getting older, Winfrey sees aging as a gift more than a hindrance. Last year, the media icon expressed, “And you know, people say that you’re never as young as you are right now at this moment. And while that may be true, I’m okay with that because aging brings great gifts—like being able to do more things that you want to do rather than what you have to do.”

Oprah Winfrey also highlighted that with age comes the wisdom of knowing how to choose wisely and what’s best for oneself. She also discussed the importance of keeping fit and revealed what her athletic goals were, which included hiking her favorite trails and walking with her dogs.
