đł Bishop T.D. Jakesâ Health Scare Shocks the Church and Beyond
Beloved pastor and spiritual leader Bishop T.D. Jakes is opening up for the first time about the terrifying moment he suffered a massive heart attack in the middle of a sermon.
It happened on November 24, 2024, while Jakes, 67, was preaching at The Potterâs House of Dallas.
âI didnât really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance,â Jakes said during an emotional interview on the Today show.
âThe doctor leaned over and said, âYouâve had a massive heart attack.ââ
đ No Classic SignsâJust a Sudden Shift
Whatâs especially shocking is that Bishop Jakes didnât have the typical heart attack symptoms.
No chest pain. No shortness of breath. Just a moment of peace that couldâve been his last.
âI just kind of drifted off to sleep,â he shared. âFive minutes later, Iâd have been dead on arrival.â
The right side of his heart had completely stopped pumping blood. As long as he was up preaching, he felt fine.
But when he sat down, the adrenaline wore off and the clot was exposed.
đ„ Emergency SurgeryâWhile Awake
Jakes underwent emergency surgery to remove the clotâand remained fully awake the entire time.
âThe surgeons were operating while I was awake. They never put me to sleep,â he recalled. âTechnology, itâs amazing.â
He says watching footage of the incident is tough.
âThey had to claw the microphone out of my hand,â he said.
âBut in my mind, I was in a white, cloud-enveloped space. I was on my way out.â
đđŸ A Miracle in Motion
Bishop T.D. Jakes is calling his recovery a spiritual experienceâand a miracle.
âI had my whole churchâglobal churchâpraying for me,â he said.
Now fully recovered, heâs back in the pulpit and more grateful than ever.
âSometimes things happen beyond our control,â he previously shared.
âBut greater is He that is in us.â
